Beat the Heat

Beat the Heat

Staying cool this summer in your truck can be a challenge – sometimes a little extra help is needed even if you have the very best air conditioning system. We checked in with a few drivers in our trucking community and asked them for some tips on must have’s in the summer months. One of the first things they mentioned was having a small fan on the truck. There is a great selection of 12-Volt fans in travel centers this time of year that will keep you cool while on-the-go. A few suggestions include the RoadPro 12-Volt Oscillating Fan that features adjustable positioning and has a spring-loaded clamp for easy mounting. It can also be permanently mounted to your dash. It retails just under $15 and does a great job at adding additional cool. Others might prefer the 12-Volt Tornado Fan. This one features a quick mounting clip and variable speed control with an adjustable swivel base for easy placement. If you drive team or typically have a passenger with you, you might want to consider the 12-Volt Dual Fan. The fans are adjustable and have variable speed operation, both retail for just under $20.

Another very important tip while on the road in the summer months is to keep hydrated by carrying additional beverages. If you don’t have a refrigerator in your truck, you might want to consider purchasing a cooler to keep drinks cold while on the road. Also storing summer fruits and veggies in your cooler, such as watermelon, cucumbers and cantaloupe to name a few, will help keep you hydrated.  Realizing that keeping a cooler with ice might be problematic for some – there are a few 12-Volt coolers that will keep your beverages and fresh food items cold. The 18-quart Koolatron is designed to fit between the front seat or narrow spaces and has a lightweight lid without latches for easy one-handed access. This unit can also keep items warm. The Koolatron 26-quart 12-volt Thermo-Electric cooler has a flip-up locking handle with a removable lid and cools to 36°F. Need something a bit smaller? Check out the RoadPro 12-Volt 7-Liters Cooler/Warmer with built in double cup holders and an insulated design that will keep contents cool even after unplugging. RoadPro also offers a Soft-Sided 12-Volt Cooler with a 12-liter capacity. It has an adjustable shoulder strap and detachable power cord. Check out your travel center flyers as coolers are often on sale this time of year or will qualify you for additional points in your RoadPro Rewards account. Another quick tip is to always have a can koozie on hand to place your beverage in. This will keep your drink cool while you drive or when you turn off your truck at a stop for a short break. These are just a few of the suggestions we had and hope they will help you to stay cool!
