Bluetooth Evolution - What's Next?

A new generation of wireless devices and technology is coming to a travel center near you. Everything from Bluetooth earbuds to smart speakers will see upgrades to functionality-like speed, range and capacity.

Wireless devices will see double the data rate with Bluetooth 5 that will allow the use of multiple devices in new ways and provide longer battery life. Bluetooth 5 will transform the range, speed and broadcast capability of Bluetooth applications and you will be able to seamlessly connect to two devices at the same time. Meaning if you are on your Bluetooth headset you could continue using your mic but then transfer sound to a connected speaker without sacrificing call clarity.

BlueParrott just released “the world’s first 100% voice-controlled headset”, the B550-XT. This headset takes hands-free to the next level. This new innovative technology will allow you to use your voice to activate the headset and control all calls, GPS directions, music, voice assistants and more, keeping your hands on the wheel.  Rand McNally just launched the ClearDryve convertible headset which is both mono and stereo and you can switch from using it as a headset to make and receive calls while driving to an ultra-high-fidelity pair of headphones for relaxing after a day’s drive.

Wireless earbuds that have improved range and noise cancellation will be available in a variety of options, all offering different degrees of charging and listening time. MobileSpec’s new Stereo Bluetooth Earbuds are one to keep your eye out for in travel centers. Their earbuds come in a charging case, that promises 1-hour charging time. The earbuds allow you to listen to music for extended periods of time and up to 3 hours talk time. This new development in Bluetooth technology will continue to improve your on-the-go lifestyle.

New wireless charging will also be on its way as tech giants will be changing up their smartphone brands. You no longer need to plug a cable into your smartphone to charge up as portable wireless charging stands make their way to market. These wireless charging stands, like the Belkin Boostup or the Samsung Fast Charge provide access to your phone while charging in either a portrait or landscape mode. You can also expect to see more charging mats for multiple items. Picture charging a tablet, smartphone and smartwatch all at the same time, on the same charging station.
